Truths from the Prayer Stations -Wisdom Sermon

God’s Wisdom vs. Worldly Wisdom

Lies: God doesn't really mean everything in the Bible.
It's not that important that I read the Bible daily.
I don't need to believe everything in the Bible.
If I don't know what the Bible says, I won't be accountable for what it says.

I don't really have an important role to play so I don’t need to read the bible to find out my role.

Truth: God’s Word is True
2 Timothy 3: ‬15‭-‬16 -- All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

God’s Wisdom vs. Worldly Wisdom

Lies: I don't need to act like I really live in a supernatural world.

       God is not real.

What you can see, feel, taste, or smell is all there is.

Truth: I Live in a supernatural world

Philippians 3:18-21 -- For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth. But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives.

Other verse(s) -- Matthew 6:33 ESV, John 20:29, 2 Kings 6:17

John 20:29- But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
2 Kings 6:17- Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

God’s Wisdom vs. Worldly Wisdom

Lies: The World’s views are not dangerous to me.

Thinking you are wise in this world age

I can do, watch, read, hang out with whoever/whatever I want and it won't impact ME.
It may impact others but not me.
I'm strong enough, I'm smarter, etc.

Truth: The wisdom of this world is foolishness to God

1 Cor 15: 33 Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.”

Phil 4:8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

James 4:4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” And again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless.”
Other Verse(s)- 1 Corinthians 3:18‭-‬20 NLT, 1 John 5:19

1 John 5:19 We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.

God’s Wisdom vs. Worldly Wisdom

Lies: God doesn’t really love me

        God is not really good!

He is scary to come to.
I need to clean up everything myself before I can come to him.
Repentance is scary.
God does not have a better plan for my life.
I can not trust God.  I need to stay in control.
God wants me to be afraid of him.

Truth: God is so good and he adores me.
Love:  Romans 5:6-8, I John 4:16, I John 3:1, John 3:16, Romans 8:38-39, I John 3:1
Good:  John 3:16, James 1:17, Psalm 107:1, Psalm 145:9
Ephesians 1:4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

God’s Wisdom vs. Worldly Wisdom

Lies: My prayers won’t change anything

It’s ok for me to not actually spend time with God.

Truth: Your prayers are powerful and effective

James 5:16: “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

Lie: I already know all of this. I don't need this sermon.
I am more humble, spiritual, religious, or devoted than others

This is a great sermon for someone else.  I wish that they were here.

Zephaniah 3:11-12 - I will remove all proud and arrogant people from among you. There will be no more haughtiness on my holy mountain. Those who are left will be the lowly and humble, for it is they who trust in the name of the Lord.
Philippians 2:3 - Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

1 Peter 5:5-7 -  And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for “God opposes the proud,  but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.
